The country of extremes...so hot it's on fire...so wet it floods...
To go back home to New Zealand over the christmas holidays to scatter my brothers ashes...unfortunately, it didn't happen...My mums biological mother died not so unexpectedly but suddenly, so we made the choice to go home for her funeral, just the two of us...
My "nana" was a chronic alcoholic, and mum, being the eldest of three, took the beatings and abuse...she was eventually a ward of the state...to cut a rather long story short, to save some sanity, mum removed herself from nanas life in order to have one of her own...
So we made the whirlwind trip home for 5 days...we went and viewed the body before the funeral...to be honest, I could hardly even recognize her...she had turned into an old, frail woman...I had to look hard to find familiar features...we said our goodbyes and mum made her peace...
The funeral was lovely...everything went perfectly until the cemetery when the casket was lowered in the wrong way...i may elaborate on this later, but for now, I'll just say that our culture requires the sun to shine on our heads and set at our feet...
After much debate with the young fellow from the funeral home, nanas casket was hoisted up and turned around the correct way lol
All's well that ends well...

I'm sure the weather is just perfect at The Avenue. We have to hit that place up again soon.
